Back to School (Part 2)

Following yesterday’s sendoff of their big sister the boys returned to school today, their last year in preschool.

They chose to sit in the corner we didn’t put them there.

This was their mother after dropping them off at school this morning

Farewell Old Friend

This morning it was time to say farewell to my old car a 2002 Saturn SL2, I am amazed it made it this far, the transmission has been having issues for a while now, and recently it would no longer go in reverse which was the end of it.   I thought about just dumping the car in the backyard but in the end decided to donate it to an organization that can hopefully make some good use of it.

Where Did You Get the Car? I Found it

A note on the post title: Back in the early 1990’s my friends and I spent a  lot of time bowling at Jamar Lanes in Brooklyn where we once witnessed this conversation between a father and son:

Father: Where did you get the car?

Son: I Found it

This went on for a while though I couldn’t tell you how it ended.

This mornings incident reminded me of that story as I woke up and found a car… in our backyard.

To give you a little perspective on the path the car took here is an overhead view from Google Maps, the car jumped the curb and followed the arrow across the yard finally coming to a stop all the way in the back.  All this with out hitting my house, or any of the fences (including our relatively new fence not seen in the photo) surrounding the property.

The police were called and were obviously amused by what they found, the car is not stolen, and we still don’t really understand how it came to be in our backyard this morning.  According to a neighbor the car arrived here around 2:30 AM, we slept right through it.

The police called a tow truck, in the end it took 2 tow trucks about an hour to get the car back onto the driveway and haul it away, here is some video

Here is the car when it was finally back on land

I think the yard is going to need some work after this

and finally the car was hauled away

I look forward to reading the police report when it is available in a couple of days and seeing if it sheds any light on the mystery of how the car wound up in our back yard.

Certainly made for an interesting start to the week, and it was something to talk about other than the Giants terrible loss last night.

Update on the twins

Thanks to everyone for their good wishes via comments, tweets and e-mails.  By far the most popular question I have been getting is about the babies names.  Right now the babies have not been given names, by Jewish tradition baby boys are given their names on the eighth day at their Bris.  Our twins were born a few weeks early so their Bris will likely be delayed a bit beyond the eighth day (we wait until the doctor clears them medically which takes precedence over anything else).  One more note, having attended many Bris in the past I can assure you they are nothing like the one that takes place in the Seinfeld episode “”The Bris”. The twins are both doing well, and we expect them to be in the hospital for somewhere between 7-10 days.  My wife came home from the hospital today, so for the next week we will be doing a lot of shuffling back and forth from home to the hospital which is fortunately close to home.  The big sister has been really great so far, and this afternoon she will finally get a chance to see her brothers through the window of the room they are in.

Happy Festivus!

Thats right December 23rd is Festivus, for those unfamiliar with Festivus, you can view this clip from Seinfeld or read the script.  You can also check out an article that appeared in the New York Times Magaziine in December of 2004.  For anyone interested in purchasing a Festivus Pole, this site has them. Here is a photo taken in December of 2006 of Molly and I with the office Festivus pole.  The pole is back up this year, but I didn’t make it in to that office for a photo this year. A picture named M2 So we are celebrating today, but not Festivus.  December 23rd also happens to be my birthday, so we will celebrate that instead 🙂

New Jersey Winter Weather Forecast

For those of you in the New Jersey area, I can now safely predict that we will get through this winter with out any major snowstorms.  I can confidently say this since yesterday I purchased a Toro CCR 2450 Snowthrower.  If my forecast it correct it will have been worth every penny.
