Wrapping up Sunday here at Lotusphere, and getting some much needed sleep to rest up for the OGS tomorrow morning. On Jumpstart day I always try to attend a session or two that is out of the bounds of what I normally do, it is a good opportunity to learn something new. To accomplish this I started the day with two dev sessions JMP201 AJAX and JSON, followed by JMP203 JMP203 Getting to Know XPages. After lunch it was off to the show floor to watch the finalists present their solutions to the judges. Before heading out to the beach for the welcome receptions a stop at The Turtles Guide to Lotusphere. Welcome reception, followed by some socializing at Kimono’s and the Dolphin Rotunda. I really think people need their Twitter ID’s on their badges, but it is great to meet people and put faces to names and twitter id’s. Lots of people using IdoCheckin, making it a little easier to find people or connect with people you know, but don’t know in person. Time for some sleep now, will be Live Blogging the OGS right here starting at 8:15 tomorrow morning.
Live blogged on the iPhone (Now cleaned up with Pictures Kudos to IBM for letting The Turtle present this fun filled session, that contained both lots of humor, and well good advice for surviving Lotusphere. I know there is still a lot of great stuff to come this week, but nothing quite like this session will be repeated any time this week. No food fight, William Shatner not showing up for a food fight (I don’t know this was promised in the abstract!) Your backpack at the parties don’t do it! It’s a marathon Don’t burn out on Sunday night Party like it’s 1699? (throws more candy into the crowd) What to Look for this week Mashups Connections Foundations Xpages Anything else that ends in the letter S Bluehouse Anything your boss told you to look for Ideajam Social Events ” the parties find me they won’t find you because you are young and you suck” Weather forecast for the week ( pours a cup of water on his head to remind us about the animal kingdom party 2 years ago) Special guests Bruce Elgort up ok stage talking about ideajam Matt White on xpages Libby Ingrassia talking about the Nerd Girls and Yoga Bill Buchan words can’t capture this segment (but I think I saw someone taking some video) Bills advice for technology to focus on this year – liposuction Get in to the labs and make sure to attend ask the developers Why are the cows on the podium – Disney staff views us as catle Turtle rick rolls the crowd Thats all folks off to the beach for the Welcome Reception
This afternoon the group participating in the Lotusphere Blogger program has the opportunity to visit the show floor as the two groups of judges viewed presentations and demos from finalists for the Lotus CTO Award, and the Lotusphere best in Showcase Award. Lots of excellent candidates in both categories, and the judges had lots of questions for each vendor. It was also a chance to take a unique look at the show floor as many vendors were still setting up their pedestals to get ready for tomorrow. Here is a shot of Bruce Elgort presenting ideajam to the Judges
I have not done much with xpages, being an admin I have been more focused on things like DAOS and ID vault in 8.5. Sitting through this jumpstart I am blown away by what can be done easily in xpages. Look out I might be playing with the design client later, always a dangerous thing.
Last night got to meet up with a bunch of people at ESPN, great to put a lot of faces with Twitter names, and catch up with people in person. Jumpstart day is underway, I started out the day at JMP201 Using AJAX and JSON in Domino Web Applications. An interesting session, if maybe slightly advanced for this admins development skills ( or maybe I really should have had coffee before the session). Next up is JMP203 Getting to Know XPages and the new IBM Lotus Domino Designer. While I have played a little with the new designer, I have not done anything with Xpages, so this should be a good education for me. After lunch this afternoon I am looking forward to watching the judging of the Lotus Award Finalists on the show floor. More later.
I have been rearranging iPhone applications on my iPhone to prepare for Lotusphere, here is the first screen of my iPhone and the applications I expect to use the most during the week Twitterfon – free Twitter client, easy to use, and updated in the iTunes app store today with a new feature making conversations easier to follow BrightKite – iPhone app that allows easy checkin and posting on Brightkite . IDoCheckin iBlogger – blogging client that supports the metaweblog API and I have configured to post to my blog (BlogSphere 3.0.1 B9) Facebook – have to keep up with the goings on at home somehow, and for better or worse Facebook will probably be my source of information iNotes Ultralite – shortcut to access my mail and calendar via iNotes ultralite Google Reader – shortcut to my google reader for keeping up with feeds if I actually have time Planetlotus – shortcut to Planet Lotus Mobile site any questions? GrandDialer – iPhone application that allows me to make phone calls from the iPhone via Google GrandCentralping.fm – shortcut to ping.fm for updating statuses on different services hellotxt – shortcut to hellotxt for updating statuses on different services Twitfire – simple Twitter app that makes uploading photos to TwitPic very easy AccuWeather – the matter how cold it might be in Orlando it will be warmer then New Jersey! Camera – those of you who know me know I am always taking pictures YouTube – It’s just there I never moved it Stocks – for the days I am not afraid to look Photos – have to be able to show off my kids at Lotusphere 🙂 I have lots of other apps on the iPhone, but this is the list I think will be the most used over the next week. What am I missing? What’s on your mobile device for Lotusphere?
Erica Topolski of IBM Media Relations provided some additional information about the first ever Lotusphere Blogger Program over on the Lotusphere Blog. Since Ed told us to announce ourselves consider this my announcement. They have put together a terrific agenda for the program some of the highlights include: -Sneak peek of the Vendor Showcase before it opens -A special Q&A Session with the Lotus Exec team -An advance look at a news announcement (with no blogging restrictions 🙂 ) -Lab Tours, and Meet the experts sessions There are a few other items on the agenda as well, and the good news for me is that my schedule will allow me to make it to almost all of them. I feel fortunate to have been one of 25 bloggers invited to join this program, and I think it shows that IBM really does value the blogging community. Tomorrow I will post a bit more detail on where (and how) to find me at Lotusphere 2009, but for all the news during the week check back here and on my twitter stream.
