Speaking at IBM Connect 2014

a.k.a Lotusphere

I am looking forward to warm weather in Orlando a few short weeks from now, and looking forward to speaking twice at IBM Connect 2014

First on Monday a Show and Tell session with Chris Whisonant

SHOW304 : How to Create a Perfect Profile: A Hitchhiker’s Guide to A Smarter Workforce
Date/Time : Mon, 27/Jan, 02:00 PM-03:45 PM
Room : Swan-Osprey 1 & 2

Profiles are the centerpiece of IBM Connections and your social business. IBM Connections ships with scripts to connect to your LDAP Directory. However, most organizations also need to integrate HR data to build complete profiles and reporting structure.

In this session we will teach you step-by-step how to add custom fields to your Profiles configuration, and how to populate data from multiple sources including LDAP and HR systems.

On Wednesday I will be presenting in the Best Practices track

BP311 : Sunny Days, (Smart)Cloud-y Users
Date/Time : Wed, 29/Jan, 05:30 PM-06:30 PM
Room : Dolphin-S. Hem IV-V

Learn how you can leverage the data in your existing on-premises or cloud systems (LDAP, Profiles, Active Directory, and others) to automatically provision users in IBM Smart Cloud for Social Business. This session will provide a basic introduction to Tivoli Directory Integrator, and how to connect to multiple data sources to create users in IBM SmartCloud.

We will cover user the automation of user creation, changes, and deletions, as well as explain different enrollment and log in methods available to your users.

Looking forward to seeing many of you in Orlando in a few weeks.

Speaking at IamLUG

IamLug

IamLUG is back in St Louis, MO next week and I will be there and be presenting.  My Session is titled “Fast track users for IBM Smart Cloud for Social Business with Tivoli Directory Integrator“.

I will be showing how to use Tivoli Directory Integrator to provision your users in to IBM SmartCloud.  In addition I will be covering the basics of Tivoli Directory Integrator, so if you are working with SmartCloud, IBM Connections Profiles, or have any other Directory Integration needs this session will have something for you.

Looking forward to seeing many of you in St. Louis next week.

(Sort of) Speaking at Lotusphere 2012

I did not submit any abstracts for Lotusphere this year as I knew I would not have the time to properly prepare for a session, as usual though I have found a few ways to participate in the event, so if you are looking for me here are a few of the places you can find me.

Monday

I will be hosting a table at the lunch for the 750 Students that GBS is bringing to Lotusphere this year.  Following lunch I will be participating on a panel for the students.  I know what you are thinking “a panel really?”.  This is nothing like the panels at the OGS last year.  It is completely unscripted, and if it is anything like the panel I participated in last year for the students it will be a lot of fun again.  I am looking forward to this Ed has more details on his blog.

Tuesday

11:15-12:15 in Swan Mockingbird NERD101-Spark Ideas brought to you by The Nerd Girls you can read the full session description here, here is my abstract for the session

Get Cancer Get Social

Six months ago cancer made an unwelcome entrance in to my life, when my wife was diagnosed with breast cancer. A cancer diagnosis is overwhelming to say the least, and comes with a lot of doctors, opinions, medications, etc. The tools you may not think of immediately to fight cancer? A positive attitude, a sense of humor, a blog, twitter, and facebook. Hear the story of how these social tools make coping with and fighting cancer easier.

There is also a followup Birds of Feather session at 5:45-6:45 on Tuesday in Swan Parrot 2 ( I am still trying to work on my availability to attend the beginning of the BOF, not sure if I can make it yet, but it runs in to my next event below)

I am really looking forward to presenting, and watching the other talks at this session, you can see the full list of Spark presenters here.

6:15-7:30 in Dolphin Pacific Hall SpeedGeeking!

I had a great time at SpeedGeeking last year so when I was invited to present again I couldn’t say no.  This years presentation:

So you want to be a Blogger

You read blogs, now you want your own, or you have one, but you want to expand it’s reach. What about Twitter?.  This 5 minute session will give you the basics to grow or expand your existing blog, as well as some quick tips and tricks to get the most out of Twitter.

Not sure what speedgeeking is, read last years explanation.  It is sure to be a lot of fun, and a great way to learn a little about a variety of topics in a short amount of time.

See you at Lotusphere

I am Speedgeeking at Lotusphere

My wife already laughed at me when I told her I was “Speedgeeking” at Lotusphere, I am waiting the comments that are sure to follow from some of my friends outside of the Lotus Community.

For those of you who will be there I am happy to be participating  in Speedgeeking this year.  For those not familiar here is the description of Speedgeeking:

“It all started here years ago at Lotusphere, and it’s a condensed, immersive and rowdy approach to hearing from some of the best and brightest and a wildly popular approach to learning about the tips, techniques (and sometimes crazy) ideas that they have been working on. Participants will migrate as a group around the room from one 5-minute demo station to the next, while stopwatches, buzzers and a loud-mouthed emcee keeps things fast-paced and on track!”

My topic is “Managed Replicas” one of the new features in Notes/Domino 8.5.2. I know Darren Duke is touching on this subject (and much more) during his Show and Tell session, but if you are looking for the 5 min pitch on Managed Replicas stop by and see me at Speedgeeking.
