Collaboration University – Keynote

Thanks to some help from Chris and Carl I am attending Collaboration University in Kansas City this week. Rob Novak opened the session among his other opening remarks was that in the next 3 days 30 + sessions would presented with NO powerpoint as all the  presentations were created in the Open Document Format using the Productivity Tools in Notes 8  Mike Rhodin (General Manager Lotus Software) delivered the keynote this morning to kick things off.  Mike started off with a mid year check in on the product announcements made at Lotusphere.

  • Lotus Connections 1.0 – Shipped 2 weeks ago
  • Lotus Quickr 8.0 – Shipped 2 weeks ago
  • Sametime 7.5.1 – Shipped in April
  • Notes/Domino 8 – Shipping Early August. The key points Mike was trying to drive home in all the new product development is openness of the standards being used so that anyone can access data and services in the Lotus products without a proprietary API,  and the Seamless integration being built in to all of the Lotus Family products (another post on this later as there are still some areas where IBM is falling short in this area). There was a brief mention that RIM and IBM are working on a mobile solution for Lotus Connections, will have to look for more on that. Mike was followed by Satwik Seshasai, Development Manager, Lotus Quickr  gave a demo of Quickr. More later on the rest of the days sessions.
